摘要: The conflict between religion and politics in Nigeria is older than the Nigerian state. Religion formed basis upon which Fulanis invaded Hausa homelands established Sokoto Caliphate. It also served as a forerunner of colonialism from coast it paved way for British to overrun southern coastlands, exploit its economic resources, abolished peoples’ traditions socio-cultural practices, implanted Christianity. Nigerians therefore became religious before their unification into modern state 1914 by British. One or other, people do seek meaning life, sense purpose that cannot adequately provide but can be provided religion.
