摘要: During the last 30 years, interpretation of population structuring Illex argentinus evolved from a single to six-stock model, in which stocks are characterized by having distinct spawning seasons, areas and migration patterns. It is assumed that major activity occurs discrete pulses along outer-shelf ⁄slope off Argentina ⁄southern Brazil during late-fall ⁄winter early life stages develop near Brazil-Malvinas Confluence (BMC). Nevertheless, there inconsistencies delimitation their histories. Here, we developed model based on records seawater temperature chlorophyll-a concentration establish quality different species’ geographic distribution as nursery grounds. Whereas domain south 37 S presents marked seasonal restrictions for embryonic development breeding, coastal within 44 ‐28 highly suitable most year. Squid pre-spawning aggregations at 41 would invest less energy reach equally coast than BMC. Findings paralarvae, stranded juveniles mature squid northern Patagonia support predictions model. Based these results, reproductive‐migration patterns reviewed new proposed: spawns not only seasons slope mid ⁄outer shelf, but also conducts quasi-permanent migrations areas, resulting more continuous pattern recruitment previously considered weak stock differentiation.
