摘要: Summary • A qualitative study of user perspectives published previously by the authorfound that children and young people who are dependent on ventilators spendmany months in some cases years hospital when they no longer had amedical need or wanted to be there. This second paper is drawn from same reports thebarriers ventilators,and their parents, described as important factors preventing dischargefrom hospital. Six issues were identified significant barriers prevented andyoung being discharged. These were: attitudes professionals;the lack joint commissioning accounting responsibility; general poormanagement both within health service collaborating with otherservices; complex social issues; housing problems; a auditingand outcome measures. The generalizability findings unknown. However, recommendationsare made relation establish accountingresponsibility for care services, measures monitorthe effectiveness appropriateness services provided.Keywords: adolescent, child, discharge management, develop-ment, ventilator-dependent.
