摘要: Abstract In this work, we assessed the potential of combining Fenton´s reagent and biological oxidation for removing imidazolium-based ionic liquid 1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (EmimCl). Fenton-like was conducted at variable H2O2 doses from 20 to 100% stoichiometric value as calculated theoretical chemical oxygen demand (COD). The dose afforded Total Organic Carbon (TOC) conversion COD removal 50 62%, respectively. Identifying reaction by-products formed low hydrogen peroxide allowed a plausible pathway EmimCl be proposed. effluents substoichiometric were less ecotoxic more biodegradable than parent liquid. effluent with 60% (TOC conversion ≅ 41%, removal ≅ 31%) subsequently subjected an effective treatment that complete starting compound, increased its ecotoxicity low–moderate level rendered it acceptably biodegradable. Biological performed in 8-h 12-h cycles sequencing batch reactor. Combining Fenton TOC around 90%.
