摘要: We present a case study of spatially and temporally coincident DMSP-F7 electron ion precipitation measurements Sondrestrom incoherent scatter radar observations ionospheric plasma parameters. The particle flux data allow us to determine the boundaries between magnetospheric regions central sheet (CPS), boundary layer (PSBL), cusp proper, mantle (PM), mapped down DMSP orbit (835km altitude). PSBL, cusp, equatorward section PM are characterized by intense low energy (<400eV) precipitation. measured enhanced density elevated temperature at 350km altitude same invariant latitude interval where detected low-energy flux. was unaffected, as were temperatures 200km altitude. convection pattern inferred from Doppler shift suggests that heated cloud observed in F region locally produced soft near proper rather than convected into field view. This demonstrates precipitation, which is typical for magnetosheath-like entry particular can under certain conditions be identified its thermal signatures.
