摘要: Biodiversity in rangelands is decreasing, due to intense utilization for livestock production and conversion of rangeland into cropland; yet the outlook biodiversity has not been considered view future global demand food. Here we assess impact on area their biodiversity. First formalized existing knowledge about grazing impacts biodiversity, expressed mean species abundance (MSA) original native assemblages, through metaanalysis peer-reviewed literature. MSA values, ranging from 1 natural 0.3 man-made grasslands, were entered IMAGE-GLOBIO model. This model was used change food The revealed remarkable regional variation between two agricultural scenarios. slightly increases globally 2000 2050 baseline scenario reduces under a enhanced uptake resource-efficient technologies increasing [high levels knowledge, science, technology (high-AKST)], particularly Africa. Both scenarios suggest decrease until 2050. contribution loss is, however, expected diminish after 2030, particular Africa high-AKST scenario. Policies fostering intensification can reduce overall pressure but additional measures, addressing factors such as climate infrastructural development, are necessary totally halt loss.
