摘要: Demographic information from geographically isolated conspecifi c populations is important for understanding how a species locally adapted, and can thus inform conservation decisions. Clemmys guttata (Spotted Turtle) declining throughout its range in eastern North America due to habitat loss fragmentation collection of specimens the pet trade. The objectives our study were de- scribe demography previously unstudied island population Spotted Turtles make comparisons mainland populations. We conducted mark- recapture surveys turtles on small (23.2-ha) Georgian Bay, ON, Canada. Over seven sampling trips, 40 different captured 72 times: 23 females, 6 males, 10 juveniles, 1 hatchling. Males had signifi cantly larger straight-line carapace lengths contour than whereas females greater heights males. Adult smaller mainland. Density was estimated be 1.7 turtles/ha entire island, 21.4 one wetland where ag- gregated spring. adult sex ratio skewed favor (1 male: 3.83 females). Our provides ecology isolation, which creation management plans being fragmented by human activities.
