Effects of passivation on synthesis, structure and composition of molybdenum carbide supported platinum water–gas shift catalysts

摘要: Abstract High surface area molybdenum carbides are attractive for use as catalysts and supports. Due to their pyrophoricity, typically passivated prior use. Research described in this paper compared the synthesis, structural compositional properties, water–gas shift activities of produced by depositing Pt onto unpassivated Mo 2 C. Passivation had a profound effect on character interactions between precursor salt (H PtCl 6 ) Nanoscale metal particles were deposited C while very large (p-Mo C). In situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy revealed reduction 4+ contact with commensurate oxidation Mo. Water–gas significantly higher Pt/Mo Pt/p-Mo catalyst. Overall, results indicate that passivation deposition deleterious effects loadings, structures, activities.
