摘要: Abstract Small changes in the stress fields acting on active volcanoes can trigger volcanic seismicity and some cases eruptions. A rock volume holding magma may undergo a material failure if an additional is suddenly imposed. The process produces characteristic release of strain that be detected by nearby monitoring stations as accelerated rate seismic energy release. shape this provides information about history leading to failure. Although these precursory accelerating patterns do not frequently appear, situations they successfully applied predict time maximum even eruption time. Real-time devices at Tungurahua Popocatepetl have which onset pattern was marked regional tectonic earthquakes. analysis released each volcano suggests earthquakes transferred signal increased almost linearly with site, producing logarithmic growth associated first stage Afterwards, remained constant causing further hyperbolic increase rate, until failed. duration increasing interpreted related relaxation viscoelastic shell surrounding magmatic system. behavior those shells consistent bulk viscosity component order 105–6 GPa s.
