摘要: The depolarization of negative muons stopping in liquid hydrogen has been measured by observing the distribution μ-e angles for decaying a bubble chamber. Checks impurities established that transfer from to could be neglected. A fit expression (N/2) (1+a cos θ) d(cos data gives valuea=−0.0185±0.0140 asymmetry parameter. For 100% polarized μ beam, corresponding residual polarization is 0.056±0.032. This result indicates depolarizing mechanism other than simple cascade depolarization. Expected mechanisms including Stark mixing and collisional exchange are discussed. Similar measurements mouns at rest deuteriuma=−0.0140±0.0165 anda=−0.206±0.044, respectively.
