摘要: Using a unique dataset built for the World Bank’s Country Economic Memorandum, we find that relatively small number of tycoons ('oligarchs') control substantial share Russia’s economy. Oligarchs seem to run their empires more efficiently than other Russian owners. While relative weight firms in economy is huge, they do not be excessively large by standards global where most them are operating. However, majority population deems property rights illegitimate, which creates fundamental problem building democratic and prosperous Russia.
