摘要: Karyological investigatoins were made on 24 taxa of Spirogyra Link and their chromosome numbers have been reported. The in various exhibited a wide variation ranging from n=2 S. VRG 80 to n=92±2 nitida, the latter being highest number recorded for any species so far. minuticrassoidea is new addition Indian flora. A survey suggests that aneuploidy or agmatoploidy has played more significant role than euploidy its speciation. No correlations observed between width filaments and/or chloroplasts per cell numbers. From cytotaxonomic view point paradoxa azygospora come close each other. may be mutant having lost ability conjugate. range nuclear chromosomal characters different significance cytotaxonomy genus adequately discussed light present earlier studies.
