摘要: The objective of this study was to examine the effects estrogen-based hormone therapy (HT) on regional cerebral metabolism in postmenopausal women (mean age = 58, SD = 5) at risk for development dementia. prospective clinical trial design included pre- and post-intervention neuroimaging randomized continue (HT+) or discontinue (HT−) following an average 10 years use. primary outcome measure change brain during subsequent two years, as assessed with fluorodeoxyglucose-18 positron emission tomography (FDG-PET). Longitudinal FDG-PET data were available 45 completers. Results showed that HT experienced relative preservation frontal parietal cortical metabolism, compared HT. Women who discontinued 17-β estradiol (17βE)-based HT, well continued conjugated equine estrogen (CEE)-based exhibited significant decline precuneus/posterior cingulate (PCC) area. Significant PCC additionally seen taking concurrent progestins (with either 17βE CEE). Together, these findings suggest among subjects developing dementia, is relatively preserved least In addition, continuing unopposed associated specifically PCC, known undergo most earliest stages Alzheimer's disease.
