摘要: Chromium exists in sediments two oxidation states: Cr(III), which is relatively insoluble and nontoxic, Cr(VI), much more soluble toxic. Chromium(VI) thermodynamically unstable anoxic sediments, acid-volatile sulfide (AVS) formed only sediments; therefore with measurable AVS concentrations should not contain toxic Cr(VI). If this hypothesis holds true, measuring could form the basis for a theoretically based guideline Cr sediments. Ten-day water-only spiked sediment toxicity tests amphipod Ampelisca abdita were performed Cr(VI) along collected from site contaminated high of Cr. In where exceeded analytical detection limits, interstitial water very low (<100 microg/L) no significant to A. was observed. significantly greater than zero, waters increased significantly, 90% present as mortality elevated. These results demonstrate that measurements chromium can be useful predicting absence acute effects contamination
