Epidemiology of Canine Parvovirus Enteritis among Hospitalized Dogs in Effurun/Warri Metropolitan Region of Delta State, Nigeria

摘要: Canine parvovirus enteritis has remained a problem in dog population worldwide. In Nigeria, owners and researchers have grossly neglected the disease even though it been frequent cause of morbidity mortality dogs. This retrospective study provides current information on status canine by collating analyzing data from clinical records hospitalized dogs 2000 to 2013 Effurun/Warri metropolitan region. study, endemicity this with an overall prevalence 13.4% for past 14 years demonstrated. The infection rates were significantly associated age, sex, breed vaccination (P < 0.0001). Puppies 0 5 months male, breeds such as Alsatians, Mongrels, Rottweiler, indigenous unvaccinated are at higher risk. Furthermore, seasonal pattern demonstrated peak incidence recorded every 4 - highest numbers cases occurring January (dry season) July (wet year. Additionally, shows that recovery rate 84.3% was achieved following “aggressive’’ therapeutic management. There is therefore need enlighten veterinarians importance against disease.
