Increasing physical activity among church members: community-based participatory research.

摘要: Background Faith-based interventions using a community-based participatory approach hold promise for eliminating ethnic health disparities. This study evaluated the effects of volunteer-led statewide program to increase physical activity among members African-American churches. Methods African Methodist Episcopal churches within six regions (Conferences) were randomly assigned receive training in immediately or 1 year later. A cohort 20 selected and 571 them took part telephone surveys at baseline (May–September 2003) (May–August 2004) 2 years later (June-September 2005). Primary outcomes participation, meeting recommendations, stage readiness change. Statistical analyses completed April 2006. Results Volunteers (N=889) from 303 trained. Among survey respondents, did not significantly over time, although 67% aware program. Program awareness was related all three fruit vegetable consumption. Pastoral support associated with activity.
