摘要: Single crystal 321 stainless steel stress corrosion cracking was studied in a 42 wt.% MgCl2 solution. Cracks propagated macroscopically the maximum tensile plane regardless of notch orientation with respect to applied load direction. Some cracks nucleated discontinuously at intersection two slip bands. Most cracks, however, were not related Cleavage-like fracture observed, and river-markings exhibited microshear facets along {1 1 1} plane. Interaction between main crack discontinuous microcracks increased calculated intensity factor by 17 times promoted coalescence, resulting mechanical ligaments cracks.
