Interplanetary field control of the location of the Venus bow shock: Evidence for comet-like ion pickup

摘要: The location of the Venus bow shock is found to be sensitive both angle interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) solar wind flow and phase cycle. We attribute former dependence effect planetary ion pickup by magnetosheath convection electric analogous cometary field. latter solar-cycle variation in density exospheric neutrals response distance from sun. also find a north-south pole-equator asymmetry shock, controlled direction IMF plane perpendicular flow, for those data where component dominates. These observations suggest how comet-solar interaction should respond combination orientation intensity ionizing radiation.
