An overview of heroin trends in New York City: past, present and future.

摘要: Heroin abuse has been a long-standing problem in the United States, especially New York City, which is major heroin trafficking center and home to largest population of addicts country. As consequence, City also for methadone treatment. Over time, however, seems have changed terms demographic characteristics abusers, as well purity, its associated health consequences, modes use, other drug patterns. Past present heroin-involved events are examined, with some projection about future problem. To identify these changes, variety indirect indicators analyzed. These include admissions treatment programs, deaths, arrests emergency room episodes, purity levels. Additionally, recent study abusers yielded patterns use estimates prevalence. The salient results indicate that, over Hispanics become predominant user group, an aging cohort, levels risen dramatically, intranasal more prominent than injecting. findings important consequences prevention, treatment, programs that target special populations.
