On the suitability of assessment tools for guiding communities towards disaster resilience

摘要: Abstract Resilience is now a ubiquitous concept in many science and policy circles. It polysemic that has been defined differently different disciplines contexts. An often used definition, the context of community resilience, provided by National Academies. According to this definition resilience “the ability prepare plan for, absorb, recover from more successfully adapt adverse events” (the four abilities). Over past two decades various tools have developed for assessing resilience. This study examines 36 selected assessment find out if they are suitable adequately addressing abilities A framework, identifying measures can contribute each developed. Evaluating using framework indicates only few them reasonably related abilities. Overall performance particularly poor terms absorption adaptation Detailed results tool provided. Developers use these understand shortcomings their address revised versions.
