摘要: Abstract The international fusion community has designed a miniature torsion specimen for neutron irradiation studies of joined SiC and SiC/SiC composite materials. Miniature joints based on this design were fabricated using displacement reactions between Si TiC to produce Ti3SiC2 + with tested in torsion-shear prior after irradiation. However, many specimens fail out-of-plane within the body, which makes it problematic assign shear strength value difficult compare unirradiated irradiated strengths determine effects. Finite element elastic damage elastic–plastic models are developed that indicate fracture is more likely occur body sample cause failures when certain modulus ratio joint material exists. model results compared discussed regard test data variety includes SiC/CVD-SiC tailored moduli, steel/epoxy CVD-SiC/epoxy joints. implications discussed.
