摘要: Background The amount of plant data such as taxonomical classification, morphological characteristics, ecological attributes and geological distribution in textual image forms has increased rapidly due to emerging research technologies. Therefore, it is crucial for experts well the public discern meaningful relationships from this vast using appropriate methods. are often presented lengthy texts tables, which make gaining new insights difficult. study proposes a visual-based representation display users way. This method emphasises between different sets. Method involves four main steps translate text-based results Extensible Markup Language (XML) serialisation format into graphs. include: (1) conversion ontological dataset graph model data; (2) query (3) transformation XML graphical form; (4) user via interface (GUI). Ontological plants samples trees shrubs were used demonstrate how plant-based could be integrated proposed visualisation. Results A visualisation system named was developed. provides GUI that enables perform process, viewer form network graph. efficiency developed measured by performing two types evaluations: usability heuristics evaluation, evaluation. Discussion visualised, enabling easily infer knowledge correlations data. evaluation show suitable both expert novice users, with or without computer skills. technique demonstrates practicability assisted-tool providing cognitive analysis understanding benefit not only botanists, but also especially those interested know more about plants.
