摘要: Summary Explored were methods to derive preliminary information on growth from other known life history parameters such as maximum size and age at first maturity. Use was made of the fact that with asymptotic length known, only one point is needed determine general shape a von Bertalanffy curve. An empirical relationship used predict observed length. We mean reached 1 or 2 maturity, often provided in literature, curves. Results this approach then compared published estimates. an maturity when given literature. Temperate fishes usually have restricted spawning periods lasting few months per year typically first, second, third, later year, i.e. steps 12 months, larger species maturing later. data FishBase (http:// www.fishbase.org) establish typical ranges for performance temperate function size. present uses framework estimates which known.
