摘要: Abstract Exploratory experiments have been carried out relating to the use of molten lead as a coolant in advanced nuclear reactors. It has found that attack on structural materials is qualitively related solubility solid lead. The can be greatly reduced by presence protective oxide film and ease formation such depends nature oxidizing potential effectiveness an ‘inhibitor’ titanium dissolved confirmed. Mass transfer shown very inefficient, at least under experimental conditions used, reasons for this are discussed. A number ceramic resistant. cast iron exhibited ‘growth’. With two exceptions range coated showed unsatisfactory behaviour. An exploratory experiment susceptibility molybdenum liquid metal embrittlement did not result failure specimen.
