摘要: Fructans (fructooligosaccharides and inulin) are of increasing interest to clinical nutritionists as functional food additives. The chemically closely related carbohydrates fructose sorbitol implicated in bowel disease. Intestinal handling these is incompletely understood. absorption, transit, fermentation (breath hydrogen methane, venous acetate, blood glucose, urine fructans) after ingestion 10-30 g short- long-chain fructans from chicory were studied by single-blind, crossover randomization 10 healthy adults. Responses compared with responses lactulose, fructose, sorbitol. Breath acetate production increased proportion fructan dose similar lactulose. transit times longer than those short-chain (75 30 min, P<0.001). Semiquantitative estimates unabsorbed carbohydrate not significantly different either or lactulose nonabsorbable standards. Venous curves less precise the magnitude malabsorption breath-hydrogen (P<0.01). All subjects showed 50 resulting more symptoms 20 (P<0.05). Ingestion equimolar amounts glucose did reduce abdominal distress.
