摘要: Objectives This study sought to characterize temporal trends in hospitalizations with heart failure as a primary or secondary diagnosis. Background Heart patients are frequently admitted for both and other causes. Methods Using the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS), we evaluated between 2001 2009. Hospitalizations were categorized either based on location of discharge National estimates calculated using sampling weights NIS. Age- sex-standardized hospitalization rates determined by dividing number U.S. population given year direct standardization. Results The United States decreased from 1,137,944 1,086,685 2009, whereas increased 2,753,793 3,158,179 over same period. sex-adjusted steadily 566 468 per 100,000 people. Rates initially 1,370 1,476 people 2006, then 1,359 Common diagnoses included pulmonary disease, renal failure, infections. Conclusions Although declined, diagnosis stable past decade. Strategies reduce high burden should include consideration cardiac disease noncardiac conditions.
