摘要: To determine whether all febrile outpatients below the age of two months should be routinely hospitalized and given parenteral antibiotics because possibility occult sepsis or meningitis, 147 such admissions were re viewed over four years. None neonates had bacterial while one may have sepsis. Because serious infections been missed in not hospitalized, outcome illnesses seen clinic during a subsequent six was monitored; none 17 20 followed as experienced meningitis. If our findings are confirmed other studies, outpatient with well appearance, normal cerebrospinal fluid physical examination, dependable follow-up require universal hospitalization antibiotics.
