The role of correspondence sections in post-publication peer review: A bibliometric study of general and internal medicine journals

摘要: Scientific journals claim that correspondence sections are for post-publication peer review. We compared the conditions submission and bibliometrics of letters-to-editors published in leading medical 2002 2007 using journal-derived information data from PubMed Journal Citation Reports. The median time limit letter submissions decreased 6 to 3.5 weeks, word 400 350. number letters per article was near one both years. Only about half were followed by an author reply either year. Electronic response systems available four 2007.
