Summary According to FAO, world demand for animal products will double in the first half of this century as a result increasing population and economic growth. During same period, major changes are expected climate. Food security remains one highest priority issues developing Latin American countries, region where livestock production plays fundamental role. Agricultural activities seriously threaten natural resources; therefore, it is necessary ensure that contributes satisfy sustainable manner. Intensive silvopastoral systems (ISS) becoming technology choice Colombian regional sectors because can help reduce seasonality plants production, therefore contribute mitigate adapt effects climate change. We have recently gained knowledge on nutritional productive attributes these systems. However, recent years, low carbon approach acquired importance agriculture, which seeks primarily promote adoption programs running parallel aimed at adapting mitigating This review outlines projections change industry, presents concepts Greenhouse Gas flow highlights evidence support conclusion ISS an interesting option allow sector some its effects. The may remove up 26.6 tons CO 2 eq/Ha/yr from atmosphere.  Key words: bovine , GHG, grasslands, livestock, sustainability.
