摘要: BACKGROUND Lymphedema of the arm is a serious consequence breast carcinoma treatment. Postmastectomy lymphedema upper limb usually related to certain risk factors such as axillary surgery, radiotherapy, obesity, venous outflow obstruction, delayed wound healing, and infection. The objective current study was identify for secondary after treatment. METHODS A total 1278 patients, all whom were residents Florence area, Italy at time diagnosis who operated on by same surgeon between 1989 1997, included in analysis. circumference measured defined being present when an increase > 5% sum differences two arms found. observed cumulative probability occurrence estimated using Kaplan–Meier method. Cox proportional hazards models fitted assess relative excess check confusing factors. All patients with living area referred specialist treatment. RESULTS Two hundred three cases ipsilateral found (15.9%). right affected 44.5% left 55.5%. developing late be significantly pathologic T2 classification (hazards ratio [HR] = 1.44; 95% confidence interval [95% CI], 1.06–1.94) postoperative radiotherapy (HR 1.35; 95%CI, 1.00–1.83). Patients had 30 lymph nodes removed have borderline increased 1.64; CI, 0.99–2.74). Multivariate analysis identified 1.38; 1.02–1.86) number 1.29; 1.04–1.59) independent predictors lymphedema. CONCLUSIONS The results demonstrated that correlated use removed. Cancer 2001;92:1783–7. © 2001 American Society.
