摘要: INTRODUCTION Follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) is the second most common type of cancer. Genetic studies have demonstrated that loss expression and function Cdk inhibitor p27 leads to development multiple-organ hyperplasia malignancy, including carcinoma. AIM OF WORK (1) To assess prognostic value quantitative in correlation with clinicopathologic indicators FTC. (2) explore its predictive assessment response radioactive I-131 therapy metastatic FTC patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS This retrospective study was conducted on 43 histopathologically confirmed patients referred nuclear medicine department, National Cancer Institute, Cairo University between July 2001 December 2010, for therapy. Clinicopathologic parameters, details outcome, a serial follow-up serum thyroglobulin levels whole body scan were obtained from their medical records. Quantitative using immunostaining analyzed paraffin blocks thyroidectomy specimens all RESULTS With respect characteristics, found be significantly lower vascular invasion (P=0.024) an advanced-stage disease (P=0.048). A significant difference detected risk stratification p27. statistically immunohistochemical nonmetastatic as well age, growth tumor size, invasion, extrathyroidal extension. Despite observed trend low expression, worse iodine therapy, poor overall survival, point statistical significance could not reached. CONCLUSIONS In this preliminary study, appeared provide complementary valuable predictor other variables Response relation should thoroughly investigated large-scale more homogenous groups.
