摘要: Adaptive optics (AO) systems have significantly improved astronomical imaging capabilities over the last decade and are revolutionizing kinds of science possible with 4-5 m class ground-based telescopes. A thorough understanding AO system performance at telescope can enable new frontiers as observations push to their limits. We look recent advances wave-front reconstruction (WFR) on Advanced Electro-Optical System (AEOS) 3.6 show how progress made in improving WFR be measured directly images. describe a "waffle mode" error (which is not sensed by Fried geometry Shack-Hartmann sensor) affects point-spread function. model details AEOS simulate PSF that matches actual I band while older observed contained several times more waffle than expected, techniques noticeably improve performance. estimate impact these WFRs H-band AEOS, chosen based optimization Lyot Project near-infrared coronagraph this bandpass.
