摘要: On February 27, 2010, at 3:34 a.m. local time, a large earthquake of Magnitude 8.8 hit the Central-South region Chile. A significant number aftershocks followed initial quake, being most important 6.2, which occurred 20 min after main shock. The 2010 Chile Earthquake has been identified as thrust-faulting type that on interface between Nazca and South American plates, an average depth 35 km. Seismologists have reported rupture zone covered rectangular area approximately 550 km by 170 High horizontal peak ground accelerations were recorded soil deposits, maximum one 0.94 g Angol City, located towards zone. To north zone, (PGA) was in Melipilla reaching value 0.78 g. Several available records show motion exceeds 2 duration, may explain amount liquefied sites. Field observations shown triggered liquefaction more than different sites, covering north-south distance about 950 km, corresponds to twice length Liquefaction phenomenon induced damages road infrastructure, railroads system, buildings houses. Liquefaction-induced failure displaced distorted pile foundations piers impacting seriously operation several ports. Especially interesting is case Juan Pablo II Bridge, where differential settlements observed, but almost non transversal lateral displacements took place.
