Impact Ionization in the Proton—H-Atom System. V. Final-Cross-Section Calculations

摘要: The cross section sigma /sub I/( epsilon ;E) has been calculated for the direct impact-ionization of hydrogen atoms by protons, H/sup +/ + H(1s) yields 2H+ e/sup -/, low relative collision energies E between l00 and 500 eV, all electron which it is significant. Fundamental theory most electronic matrix-element calculations were presented in earlier papers series. In present paper we complete matrix- element (in particular, thc -'optimization'' Coriolis or angnlar coupling matrix elements ionizing transitions, through introduction an angular velocity electron-translation factor); perform final integrations over classical trajectories impact parameters to obtain sections. sections /I/( ; E) show expected steep falloff with increasing decreasing E, owing inefficiency momentum energy transfer from heavy particles under such changes; I/ decreases about two orders magnitude = eV l.0 four 0 a.u. A strong dependence on isotopic mass atmore » fixed also predicted thereby. Finally, significant conclusion that ionization 1s u/(2p u) molecular state times greater than a /sup g/ electron, main source transitons being operator. (auth)« less
