摘要: abstract The predominant seismic energy input into structures is from Rayleigh waves. These attenuate rapidly with distance the surface and are partially reflected transmitted by a hole in ground. A structure founded such may anticipate smaller than surface-founded structure. Estimates of reduction given which indicate that only short buildings material low shear-wave velocities will provide proper conditions for this beneficial effect.
