摘要: The presence of cilia on epithelia the respiratory tract was reported more than 150 yr ago, and two-layer model mucus transport put forward 50 ago. However, it is only in last 10 or so that motion mucus-propelling mammalian system has been adequately described, fluid dynamic studies have developed far enough to allow descriptions mechanisms by which ciliary movement coupled transport. In this review, scientific developments study mucus, interactions between them, are drawn together further understanding mucociliary clearance tract. incorporates a discussion internal mechanics biochemistry axoneme, physical principles beat pattern, (weak) metachronal coordination lung. Mucus rheology plays central role with rheologic properties determining effective functioning mechanism. Theoretical models provide information mechanical pattern as well providing reliable estimates rates. Although airflow not thought contribute normal state, high frequency ventilation coughing may make significant contributions.
