摘要: Abstract A geometric cell model for a concentrated suspension in aqueous electrolyte of identical charged dielectric colloidal spheres was employed an earlier paper theory electrophoresis and electroosmosis. The same is used here to study the related phenomenon sedimentation such suspension. restricted small surface potentials (in linear Debye-Huckel range) values κa ≳ 10, where particle radius 1/κ double layer thickness. distortion from spherical symmetry diffuse charge density within (the relaxation effect) due described by simple approximation. steady state “streaming potential” condition zero net current flow through also Henry's normal component at are calculate induced dipole moment, electric field velocity. For very dilute suspensions thin layers, these calculated quantities tend towards classic results Smoluchowski, as required. In limiting case single value obtained velocity lies between those Smoluchowski Booth. predictions consistent with rather limited experimental data available literature.
