摘要: Ultramafic and mafic mine tailings are a valuable feedstock for carbon mineralization that should be used to offset emissions generated by the mining industry. Although passive carbonation is occurring at abandoned Clinton Creek asbestos mine, active Diavik diamond Mount Keith nickel mines, there remains untapped potential sequestering CO2 within these wastes. There accelerate create economically viable, large-scale fixation technologies can operate near-surface temperature atmospheric pressure. We review several relevant acceleration strategies including: bioleaching of magnesium silicates; increasing supply via heterotrophic oxidation waste organics; biologically induced carbonate precipitation, as well enhancing through management practices use point sources. Scenarios pilot scale projects proposed with aim moving towards carbon-neutral mines.
