摘要: Studies at small spatial scale are often fundamental to highlight the behavioural plasticity of a species and thus have important implications for conservation planning, in particular usually considered as habitat specialists. We investigated second-order selection European pine marten an area dominated by deciduous oak forest open fields central Italy, radio-tracking 16 martens (eight males, eight females). Pine placed home ranges areas with more field than study area, whereas woodland (oak conifer forests) comprised smaller portion range predominant character studied area. Although presence habitats has been documented, our knowledge, results provide first evidence establishment this cover type population level. The combination low predation risk high availability resources could allow occupy highlighted different individual strategies selection, some individuals placing coverage while others occupying areas. found no effects sex body condition on indicate that both forested non-forested types, such fields, shrub anthropic areas, can adequate food, overhead resting sites all individuals. ability seems related flexibility species, rather need supplement dens forage from complementary lower quality habitat. Mediterranean continental also explain marten. Our offer useful information ecology may be helpful management southern Europe.
