摘要: It is important to have quantitative predictions of brine movement in a radioactive waste repository for performance assessment and seal design evaluations. A preliminary analysis the results was begun with highly idealized fluid flow model porous media. Our collection data unheated boreholes agreed reasonably well inflows that were calculated this model. Agreement attained using permeability porosity values are generally consistent measured WIPP host rock properties. also shown experiments within transient stage However, temperature dependence viscosity, when used model, inadequate account large water rates heated boreholes. Further development additional needed understand WIPP, without sources heat. Parametric studies time, scale, salt composition needed. Measurements pore pressure at intervals few meters excavations by analyses be testing mechanistic hypotheses concerning transport. hydrologic disturbed zone characterization can contribute our understanding transport WIPPmore » excavations. 29 refs., 30 figs., 6 tabs.« less
