摘要: More than 90% of harlequin frog species (Atelopus spp.), endemic to the Americas, are currently threatened with extinction. We report discovery only known breeding population Critically Endangered A. varius in Costa Rica. This was located 2008 on a private property Las Tablas Protected Zone near San Vito, Coto Brus at 1300 m elevation. Previously, remaining/remnant this and genus single location Manuel Antonio, Puntarenas, Rica, where two individuals were documented 2004. Subsequent searches have yielded no additional sightings. Delineating spatial limits population, quantifying demographics resource use, implementing conservation actions necessary ensure persistence population. Conducting surveys region ascertain occurrence populations is warranted.
