摘要: Abstract Considerable activities from the oil and natural gas sector have risen some concerns about pollution of soil groundwater by petroleum hydrocarbons (PHCs) in (semi)-arid coastal regions. The understanding fate transport PHCs these regions is therefore necessary to develop strategies for remediation. To quantify sorption rates environments, we conducted a series controlled-laboratory batch experiments under variable temperature salinity conditions. samples were collected eastern coast Qatar which near two largest off-shore fields country (North Gas Al-Shaheen Oil Fields), volatile benzene naphthalene used as PHCs. characterization showed sand classification with texture class sabkha saline beach sandy soils calcite potential dominant mineral. concentrations dissolved chloride sodium found be high (> 400 mg L−1) chloride-to‑sodium ratio 1.7. results that more than benzene, where initial aqueous reduced at equilibrium due 14–25% 65–79%, respectively. This difference was attributed mainly organic carbon-water partitioning coefficient higher naphthalene. rate stronger lower not affected change but increased 18% when decreased 35 5 °C. A kinetic model also applied define behavior best fits achieved Langmuir isotherm.
