摘要: Abstract Better predictive models of mechanical failure in low-weight heat shield composites would aid material certification for missions with aggressive atmospheric entry conditions. Here, we develop such a model the rapid engineering analysis limits phenolic impregnated carbon ablator (PICA) - leading whose structural component is fiber network. We hypothesize inelastic deformation mechanisms and their behavior using molecular dynamics simulations to calculate binding energy. then upscale this energy macroscale renormalization argument. The approach delivers insightful reasonably accurate predictions that compare favorably experiments. In application, validated particular variety PICA by comparison experiment be used study design scenarios different
