摘要: To examine ethnic differences in postneonatal mortality and the incidence of sudden infant death England Wales during 1982-5 records were analysed, mother's country birth being used to determine group. Postneonatal was highest infants mothers born Pakistan (6.4/1000 live births) followed by Caribbean (4.5) United Kingdom Republic Ireland (4.1). Crude rates lower India (3.9/1000), east west Africa (3.0), Bangladesh (2.8) than despite less favourable weights. Mortality ratios standardised separately for maternal age, parity, social class significantly higher those Bangladesh. The ratio when adjusted age. Ratios Indian African did not show significant after standardisation. An important finding a low Asian origin. This paralleled from respiratory causes. During 1975-85 all immigrant groups except Pakistanis fell similar or rate that group; showed persistent excess. 1984-5 several (from Ireland, India, Africa, Caribbean) recorded an increase mortality. Surveillance among communities should be continued, research is needed identify causes underlying differences.
