Results A total 2997 questionnaires were returned, which 1768 from Western Europe (WE) 1229 Central Eastern (CEE). Eighty-four percent responding said they would follow recommendation use oral rehydration solution (ORS) rehydration, 66% using an ORS containing 60 mmol/l sodium ORS. Only 16% (WE 15%, CEE 19%) guidelines rapid over 3 4 hours. Forty-five rehydrate 3- 6-hour period 35%, 60%), 17% 23%, 9%) extend 12 24 reintroduction normal feeding after hours be followed only 21% physicians, 43% 46%, 38%) start full-strength formula. However, guideline about continuation breast-feeding is widely (total 77%; WE 78%, 75%). Thirty-six 45%, 23%) lactose-containing formula successful rehydration. Contrary 35% 30%, 42%) lactose-free 19% 12%, 28%) lactose cow's milk protein-free 37% 46%) replace ongoing losses watery diarrhoea. Conclusions results survey suggest exception recommending during diarrhoea, minority optimal children gastroenteritis.
