摘要: The thrust of this study is to examine traditional association as a catalyst for community development and crime prevention control in Igboland, Nigeria. revealed that the socio-political organisation Igbo society predicated on associations, namely, age grades, town unions, youth organisations, masquerades/traditional secret societies, ‘Umuada’ (patrilineal daughters), ‘Umunna’ (kinsmen). These associations build halls/civic centres, market malls, culverts/bridges, school blocks, maintain peace order. Crime achieved through social satire by masquerades male initiates, corporal punishment, fine, vituperations via folk music, ostracism, economic deprivations, incommunicado especially areas buying from selling an offender. recommends proactive encouragement sustenance government, Non-government philanthropists members who are also political representatives; government all levels should vigorously intensify efforts their developmental scheme collaborating with associations; conventional police formally liaise various grades vigilante groups ensure effective prediction, control.
