摘要: Elemental ratios can be very useful tools for characterizing phytoplankton communities in lakes. Appropriate measures of the carbon, nitrogen, silicon, and phosphorus various particulate fractions have generally not been collected a systematic fashion past. Resource turnover rates shown to important factors controlling species composition community structure phytoplankton. This observation provides mechanistic basis use elemental ratios. Available nutrient data from large lakes are used demonstrate potential stoichiometric approach understanding plankton monitoring effects changes loadings nutrients Each Laurentian Great Lakes appears unique resource ratio signature.
