摘要: CONNECTING SCHOOLS TO NEIGHBORHOOD REVITALIZATION: THE CASE OF MAPLE HEIGHTS ASSOCIATION Lawrence P. Pesch Marquette University, 2014 This case study focuses on the way a neighborhood association connects schools to broad change in an urban of large Midwestern city. The first section provides review literature community involvement school and reform. It reviews historical origins current school-community relationship, reasons behind movement increase involvement, diversity understandings about nature participation, processes used improve capacity both act as effective partners, different programs organizations use participate improvement process. second is qualitative uses revitalize one poorest neighborhoods Believing strongly need think holistically improvement, engages stakeholders creating comprehensive plan address social physical conditions. encompasses areas academic achievement, housing, healthy eating, commercial development, crime, health wellness, jobs, family youth. Building higher level schoolcommunity relationship challenges traditions resistance meaningful with groups working schools. works connect two public achievement piece revitalization plan. finds high levels participation process creation, but patterns behavior demands time continue be obstacles association-led change. also that outside four walls have improved surrounding conditions, these improvements not yet significantly impacted performance
