On the lateral vibrations of bars of conical type

摘要: This paper contains a discussion of the lateral vibrations thin conical bar circular section, which has its tip free. By means roots certain equations containing Bessel functions second and third orders, both real imaginary argument, frequencies nodal arrangement associated with first three tones are investigated, in case when base is clamped. The bars section were treated by Kirchhoff, 1879. In his investigations, Kirchhoff was concerned free clamped, he limited himself to period gravest tone, considered neither higher periods nor positions nodes them. J. W. Nicholson, course an investigation types variable discussed double cone (consisting two equal cones placed base,) vibrating tips free, ratios symmetrical tones. His results, however, throw no light on question clamped base, owing peculiar nature conditions at centre.
