Crystal-field spectroscopy of PuO2: further complications in actinide dioxides

摘要: Neutron spectroscopy has been performed on a sample of PuO2, enriched to 94% with the non-absorbing isotope 242Pu, measure crystal-field potential. The authors find levels consistent weak-field case parameters recently derived for UO2 and NpO2, but inconsistent interpretation magnetic susceptibility measurements PuO2. In light these discrepancies they believe that conventional model is inadequate. PuO2 probably simplest material test any new ideas because ground state non-magnetic singlet.
